Dear LaRoots reader,
Two major initiatives of the Louisiana Democratic Party in the next 2 weeks can transform democratic politics in our state, with your help. With fresh leadership in place, this is a critical moment for the Party, with the opportunity for all democrats to contribute to future messaging and policies.
TUESDAY JULY 24 - NOLA Day of the Democrats is a party-building initiative of Louisiana Democratic Party Chair Karen Carter Peterson http://lademo.org/?page_id=272 and the new Executive Committee leadership team http://lademo.org/?page_id=268 . New Orleans is the fifth Louisiana city to host a day of outreach meetings for Democratic elected officials, engaged stakeholders, and voting Democrats to speak directly with the Party leadership.
The day's highlight is the “Democratic Exchange” - a town-hall-style gathering at the New Orleans Fair Grounds. Your attendance Tuesday evening at 6pm in the Black & Gold Room of the New Orleans Fair Grounds (on site parking) is encouraged. Building up to the “Democratic Exchange,” the party leadership will meet in small-group settings throughout the day with:
Elected Democrats - the Mayor, members of the City Council, the legislature, the Orleans Parish Democratic Executive Committee, and Democratic State Central Committee.
Leadership of some Democratic organizations of youth, women, labor, cultural groups
Faith-based community leaders
Democratic Party funders
Fact-finding mission on the effects of Governor Jindal's policies on New Orleans residents
Culminating in “Democratic Exchange” Town Hall to hear from grassroots and share the day.
NOLA Day of the Democrats is sponsored by the Orleans Parish Democratic Executive Committee in collaboration with the Louisiana Democratic Party.
SATURDAY AUGUST 4th - Jefferson-Jackson Dinner, New Orleans, 7pm - The major fundraiser for our State Party will be held in New Orleans for the first time in over a decade.
